Irish Building Supply Marks 55 Years of Legacy and Growth

[Dún Laoghaire, March 2025] – Irish Building Supply is proudly celebrating 55 years in business, marking a significant milestone in its long-standing history as a trusted supplier of building materials and hardware in Ireland.

With family origins dating back 88 years to Macken’s Timber Yard on Patrick Street and T&J Macken Building Contractors, established in 1937, Irish Building Supply has remained a cornerstone of the Dún Laoghaire community since its foundation in 1970 by WJ Macken and his brothers. Over the decades, the business has grown while maintaining its core values of excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff, and great value. The company is known for its very loyal and supportive customer base, as well as its longstanding team, some of whom have worked with the business for over 40 years.

Now a third-generation family business, Declan Macken joined in 1980, and today, his children Karen, Gary, and David continue to lead Irish Building Supply forward. As a proud member of Homevalue, part of the United Hardware buying group, and a recognised Guaranteed Irish business, Irish Building Supply continues to uphold its commitment to quality and community.

In the past five years, Irish Building Supply has doubled in size, expanding with a 16,000 sq ft store, warehouse, and logistics base in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow. Alongside this physical growth, the company has significantly developed its online e-commerce presence, further strengthening its ability to serve customers nationwide.

To celebrate this significant anniversary, a special event will take place at the Dún Laoghaire store on Wednesday, March 26th. Customers, suppliers, and the local community are invited to mark the occasion and join in the celebrations.
